ESSENTIAL CHINA

Essential China takes you to China’s most Imperial cities, Beijing and Xian, and then onto Shanghai, known as the Pearl of the Orient.

Day 1 – Beijing
Arrival transfer from the airport to your Beijing hotel. Remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 2 – Beijing
A full day tour will take you to visit the Great Wall at Badaling – the world famous landmark of China. After lunch a visit to the tombs of the deceased Ming Emperors of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) that are guarded by giant stone animals. (B, L)

Day 3 – Beijing
A full day including Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world and the Palace Museum known as the Forbidden City; the complex of imperial palaces were home to the emperors for over 500 years in the Ming and Qing dynasties. After lunch visit the Summer Palace, a former Summer resort for the royal family and take a boat ride on its Lake Kunming. This evening you will be treated to a Beijing Peking Duck dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 4 – Beijing to Xian
Visit the Temple of Heaven a masterpiece of Chinese architecture, where the Ming and Qing Emperors prayed for a good harvest. After lunch fly to Xian, the great ancient capital and the eastern end of the Silk Road. Tour parts of the city walls which once measured 34 km. (B, L)

Day 5 – Xian
This exciting day of sightseeing will include the Terracotta Warriors and their horses that guard the tomb of Emperor Qin. After lunch visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda which was built in 652AD. (B, L)

Day 6 – Xian to Shanghai
This morning visit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum where you will discover how Xian became the cradle of Chinese culture. After lunch transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai, known as the Paris of the Orient. Remainder of the day is at leisure. (B, L)

Day 7 – Shanghai
This morning walk along the lively Bund with its variety of architecture and constant hustle and bustle. Visit the Yuyuan Garden in the heart of old Chinatown and the Jade Buddha Temple before attending an evening performance of the Shanghai Acrobats. (B, L, D)

Day 8 – Shanghai
Your tour ends after breakfast with a transfer to the airport.
