Discover some of Adelaide’s many hidden secrets before tasting the delights of the Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley and the famous Barossa wine regions. Explore the remnants of a rich copper mining and pioneering heritage in the towns of Burra and Kapunda, and marvel at the grandeur and majesty of the rugged Flinders Ranges. This vast and ancient land is filled with startling colours, an abundance of wildlife and stories as spellbinding as the location itself!

Day 1 Adelaide
Spend a leisurely morning exploring some of the city’s highlights. Be sure to visit the bustling and vibrant Adelaide Central Market. Known as the “pantry of the city” you will be amazed at the abundance of fresh produce on offer. Walk through the Botanic Gardens to the National Wine Centre for an educational and interactive journey of wine making. Learn the tastes, smells and characteristics of the different varieties before heading out to the wine regions! Take a walk along the cultural boulevard of North Terrace. Its many beautiful stone buildings house the art gallery, museums and university. Rundle Mall is the hub of retail shopping and at the east end of the mall you can dine alfresco in one of the many street cafes. Overnight Adelaide

Day 2 Adelaide – Adelaide Hills. Distance: 20kms (20 minutes)
Just east of the city lie the beautiful Adelaide Hills. Wildlife parks, walking trails, cooking schools and vineyards are scattered throughout the countryside. Enjoy a long lunch at one of the wineries then spend the afternoon exploring the historic German township of Hahndorf before enjoying a tour of Hans Heysen’s art studio and home. Day 3 Adelaide Hills – Barossa. Distance: 70kms (1 hour, 20 minutes)
Leave the Hills behind as you head north to the Barossa. Do stop in Williamstown to whisper your secret along the Whispering Wall before continuing on to the Lyndoch Bakery for morning tea. The Barossa is perhaps Australia’s most famous wine region and with over 50 cellar doors to visit there is plenty of opportunity to taste the local harvest! Overnight Barossa

Day 4 Barossa – Clare Valley. Distance: 100kms (1 hour)
Travel north to Auburn via the historic copper mining town of Kapunda. Highly regarded for its Rieslings, the Clare Valley region also produces some excellent reds. Stretch the legs by hiring a bike and riding a section of the Riesling Trail. This 35km track links the villages in the region and passes through some of the most picturesque landscapes and wineries in the valley. Overnight Clare Valley

Day 5 Clare Valley – Wilpena Pound. Distance: 382kms (4 hours)
Travel from Clare to Wilpena via Melrose, the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges. Continue north to Quorn then onto Wilpena Pound. This spectacular natural amphitheatre and its surrounding region offers breathtaking scenery and wildlife. Overnight Wilpena Pound

Day 6 Wilpena Pound
Spend today exploring the area either by walking trail or on a guided 4WD tour keeping an eye out for native wildlife and wildflowers (in season). Scenic flights are also available and are highly recommended. Overnight Wilpena Pound

Day 7 Wilpena Pound – Adelaide. Distance: 482kms (6 hours)
Return to Adelaide via Peterborough and Burra and experience the fascinating history of these small towns. The majesty and beauty of the great steam train era has been well preserved in Peterborough. It is the only place in the Southern Hemisphere where three different rail gauges still exist. Burra was established when copper was found in the area in 1845, much of its colourful history and character is still intact.
