HOLIDAYS OF A LIFETIME
THE POLAR REGIONS

In Antarctica, everything is extreme. It is the coldest, highest and driest continent on the planet, yet there’s nothing quite like it for adventurous souls who yearn to experience the beauty and spectacle of Mother Nature at her very best. This last bastion of an untouched land is a majestic, dramatic wonder. Rivers of ice and mountains, hundreds of thousands of years old, tower above you on either side, all carving a unique mark on the landscape.

The White Continent is a frosted wilderness of glistening white as far as the eye can see. Natural ice sculptures like enormous works of avant-garde art. This is the modern explorer’s final frontier. A place unlike anywhere else on Earth where unique nature and wildlife species exist and in fact thrive, despite the harsh climate. Marvel at calving glaciers and experience encounters with marine mammals. Observe seals sunbathing on slowmoving ice floes, perfectly at ease in the company of visitors. Hear the cries of penguins multiplied by the hundreds. Feel the unspeakable magnifi cence of whales surfacing from beneath the frigid waters.

Yet at the same time, the Arctic region, packed with astoundingly bountiful wildlife, dramatic coastlines and isolated communities is equally spellbinding. There are places in this world that travellers only dream about. Destinations so isolated and uncharted, to reach them meant sacrifi cing all but the most basic comforts until now. The Prince Albert II will escort you in unsurpassed luxury to some of the world’s most fascinating locations. Walk along a glacier and toast the midnight sun. Observe penguins, dolphins and whales in the wild. Share in the traditions of remote jungle cultures. Enter the realm of the polar bear. Experience the thrill of a true expedition. Venture deep into regions where other vessels cannot go, enjoying a privileged lifestyle that is simply second-to-none.

PRINCE ALBERT II
An Arctic Legacy
Monaco’s Prince Albert I first explored the Svalbard Archipelago in the early part of the last century. Together with a team of scientists, he studied glaciers, mapped previously unknown areas and carried out scientifi c research. One hundred years later, Prince Albert II, his greatgreat- grandson and the namesake of our ship, plotted a similar course to the North Pole with the intent to draw international attention to the environmental changes caused by global warming in these northern regions. Silversea pays homage to these two great men and their expeditions as we explore the Artic aboard the Prince Albert II.

EPIC ANTARCTICA
DAY 1: DEPARTURE FROM USHUAIA
Embark at Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world located at the Beagle Channel shore. Sail through this scenic waterway during the afternoon.

DAY 2: AT SEA
At sea, the ship is followed by several species of albatross, storm petrels and diving petrels.

DAY 3: FALKLAND ISLANDS
In the Falkland Islands we plan to spend the whole day on the fascinating western side of the archipelago. A hike along the shore of Carcass Island will give us views of Magellanic and Gentoo-Penguins. In addition, we will be able to observe Rockhopper Penguins, Black-browed Albatross and King Cormorants.

DAY 4: FALKLAND ISLANDS
In Stanley, the capital of the Falklands, we can experience Falkland culture, which has both South- American characteristics and Victorian charm.

DAY 5 & 6: SOUTH GEORGIA
At sea, on our way to South Georgia we will cross the Antarctic Convergence. Entering Antarctic waters, the temperature will drop as much as 10 degrees C in just a few hours. We will see a multitude of southern seabirds near the ship.

DAY 7- 10: SOUTH GEORGIA
Today we visit the bay of Elsehul, with its very active fur seal breeding beach, and then take course to Right Whale Bay, Salisbury Plain, Gold Harbour and Cooper Bay to give you a good opportunity to see a wide spectrum of landscapes and wildlife, like the introduced Reindeer, Elephant seals, King and Macaroni Penguins. At Fortuna Bay we try to follow in the footsteps of the great British Explorer Ernest Shackleton and hike over to Stømness Bay. There and at Grytviken we’ll see an abandoned whaling village, where King Penguins now walk in the streets and seals have taken over the buildings.

DAY 11: AT SEA
At sea, where the ship is again followed by a multitude of seabirds. We might encounter sea-ice and it is at the ice-edge where we might have a chance to see some high-Antarctic species like the Maccormick Skua, Snow Petrel and the elusive Emperor Penguin.

DAY 12: SOUTH ORKNEY ISLANDS
Today we visit Orcadas station, an Argentinean base, where friendly base personnel will show us their facilities and we can enjoy the wonderful views of the surrounding glaciers.

DAY 13: AT SEA

DAY 14 - 16: ANTARCTIC PENINSULA
We sail into the Weddell Sea through the ice-clogged Antarctic Sound. Huge tabular icebergs will announce our arrival to the eastern side of the Antarctic Peninsula. We visit Paulet Island with a million pairs of Adelie Penguins and the remains of the Nordenskiöld expedition. At Brown Bluff we can put our feet on the continent. At Deception Island, we will try to land at Baily Head home to a colony of ten thousands of Chinstrap Penguins. Deception itself is a sub ducted crater, which opens into the sea, creating a natural harbour for the ship. Here we fi nd hot springs and an abandoned whaling station. In the afternoon we land at Half Moon Island, where we can observe Elephant, Weddell and Fur Seals as well as Chinstrap Penguins.

On our way West, we sail to Cuverville Island, a small precipitous island, nestled between the mountains of the Antarctic Peninsula. It contains a large colony of Gentoo Penguins and breeding pairs of Brown Skuas. From there we sail to Neko Harbour in Andvord Bay and through Paradise Bay with its myriad of icebergs and deep cut fjords, while having chances to see large Whales. We will have opportunities for zodiac cruising between the icebergs in the inner parts of the fjords.

DAY 17- 18: DRAKE PASSAGE
On our way north we are again followed by a great selection of seabirds while crossing the Drake Passage.

DAY 19: RETURN TO USHUAIA
